E60 – PULAU BESAR TO PORT DICKSON

Departing Pulau Besar.

Continuing to head north, we passed through the port anchorage of Kuala Sengai where many ships were departing and arriving and going about their daily business. We chatted with one large chemical tanker which was coming to anchor nearby just to make sure he knew we could and would give him room to maneuver even though we were under sail.

We arrived just off Port Dickson as a very dark rain band threatened us, but we snuck into the little basin where there is a boutique ‘Marina’ under construction just as the rain and wind arrived.

The ‘Marina’ provided a limited jetty, power and water if we wanted it and was not expensive. Offering almost 360 degree protection, it could become one of the limited better marinas given time.

It was also time for our buddy boat Astrid, with Bruce onboard to continue as we were staying put for a little bit. After a few days, we moved to the larger Admiral Marina just next door, but I have to say it has become very rundown and badly maintained and it is exposed to NW winds and swell making the marina downright unsafe at times.

We found a local supermarket, very well stocked with all our favorite goodies and did some shopping. Tan then flew out to Thailand and headed home to see the family she hasn’t seen since Covid interrupted all our lives.

After Tan left, I met up with a newer YouTube Chanel ‘Sailing Swizzle’ and they are wonderful people. Please take the time to check out their channel too 🙂
