E41 – WETAR ISLAND (WEST) TO KALABAHI (1/2)
Sailing out the pick.
With a very light easterly breeze and wanting to continue to save fuel, we sailed the pick out at our little anchorage and headed further west towards the island of Alor. There is some seriously deep water here and as we were clear of shipping later in the day, and it was approaching sunset, I decided to troll the lure in 4,700m of water…just to see what lived there…Well, that almost cost us all our line and our lure but we managed to eventually (After over an hour) land a monster Yellowfin Tuna (around 60-80kg by my best guess).
We never let a fish go to waste so we filleted the fish and filled our freezer to the top knowing we could easily give it away when we met local fishermen or villagers.
After landing the monster and fileting and storing the fish it was time for a brief sunset underway before we slipped into night mode and continued west towards our planned destination of Kalabahi where I hoped to find fuel and a supermarket.
