E12 – CAPE GLOUCESTER TO MAGNETIC ISLAND
Starlight has never landed a Marlin before…
The fishing north of Cape Gloucester has always been productive for me as I cruised the North Queensland coast, but I have never yet managed to land a Marlin. These fish are just incredibly powerful and I have lost more gear, including sturdy rod holders with entire fishing rods with reel and tackle to these guys before. They are not something I usually want to tangle with but having the right guys onboard at the time and a serious hookup, we just went for it and the results speak for themselves.
The sail north to Cape Upstart was uneventful and we were rewarded with a beautiful anchorage just behind Cape Upstart. This anchorage can often be a bit roly in strong SE winds, but for our visit, it was kind and we snuck in as far as I dared to get the best anchorage we could.
Cape Upstart is really just a remote fishing/holiday community made up of fishing shacks with absolute waterfront positions and definitely one of my favorite places to visit, not just for the fishing.
