E16 – MOURILYAN HARBOUR TO CAIRNS
Overcast and raining…
We woke to a beautifully calm morning in Mourilyan Harbor and got the pick up at first light. Motoring out of the narrow Mourilyan Harbor entrance, we turned north and eventually found a little wind and pumped along nicely.
I decided to bypass Fitzroy Island as it has a reputation for being a rolly anchorage and with the gusty SE winds, it was most likely going to provide exactly that. So, we pushed on to Cape Grafton that offered the next possible anchorage.
On arriving at Cape Grafton, we found we couldn’t tuck in close enough in the shallow water to find a spot free from roll, and as the wind was still favorable and there was just enough daylight left, we decided to hoof it to Cairns directly arriving just on last light and anchoring in the sheltered river.
