Departing Australia…
We cleared out of Cullen Bay Marina in Darwin with the Australian Border Force who we’re very friendly and had us on our way with no problems at all. Cullen Bay Marina utilizes a lock to enter and leave the marina due to the huge 9m tides in Darwin, so the first order of business was to pass through the lock. This is far less daunting than it sounds.
We cut through the Vernon Islands via the North Channel just as the tide turned in our favor and sunset was upon us. Starlight had a cracking sail most of the day and well into the night giving us well over 7kts average and with the very strong tide, we spat out past the Coburg Peninsula as per our plan 🙂
