E68 – CHALONG BAY TO AO PO MARINA
Sailing from Chalong Bay
It was one of those typical Phuket SW monsoon days. We had wind from the NW and sunshine and rain squalls…but that meant exciting sailing in flat water up the east coast of Phuket.
Running downwind out of Chalong bay and then turning onto a reach in 15-20kts is exhilarating and Starlight just eats those conditions up. When the first rain band passed, we reefed down and Starlight just took off!
The sail to Ao Po Marina was uneventful but fast and wet 🙂
Ao Po Marina itself is isolated a bit if you don’t have a car or motorbike and we found only 2 local restaurants within walking distance and nothing else. The marina was a bit pricey, but well serviced and they had haul out facilities there if you needed it.
We caught up with our general maintenance guy ‘Oort’ again and he helped us sort through a huge list of jobs that needed doing. He is a true genius and lent his hand to everything.
