E74 – PANGKOR TO PORT DICKSON
Wrapped around the propeller
As we departed Pangkor anchorage, we noticed that we weren’t getting the drive from the revs we should have seen and so we elected to re-anchor. I dived the prop and found a pile of plastic wrapped around the prop which must have happened after we anchored the night before.
Tear in the headsail
Leaving the bay, after clearing the prop, we passed a pretty square rigged schooner and got some nice light air sailing not too long after. I noticed all of a sudden that the headsail had developed a rip along the luff rope where it slides into the furler and had to make an emergency repair underway. This prompted me to change our anchorage to Port Klang so we could repair if need be.
Entering Port Klang
Port Klang turned out to be an easier entrance from the north than I had expected, and the fishing fleet manageable along with the busy shipping traffic. The anchorage itself was very calm and we had a peaceful night there.
PD World – Port Dickson ‘Marina’
Next morning, we moved south out of the Port Klang channel and even saw some dolphins in the distance in the shipping channel near all the wharfs. I didn’t expect that.
Great sailing for most of the day as we headed south towards Port Dickson. Even though I had planned to anchor, the wind was threatening to be a bitch from the SW and I elected to go into the PD World ‘Marina’ basin and take a mooring there where we also refueled at quite an expensive price.
The moorings are fore and aft and very low quality and very expensive. I would avoid those in future until PD World makes an effort to upgrade their mooring. To put it into some perspective, the mooring cost us nearly what we paid for a very high quality berth elsewhere in Malaysia.
